PRIVATE FARM, BURRELL CREEK · OCTOBER 2026

Nat & Elliot's Vintage Wedding Cake

Vintage Piping · Gluten-Free Red Velvet · Two Tiers

A little vintage romance, beautiful piping, and a cake made with love for a very special wedding day.

There is something wonderfully special about a wedding held on a private property. It's personal, relaxed, and filled with the little details that make a celebration uniquely yours. For Nat & Elliot, their wedding at their private farm in Burrell Creek was the perfect opportunity to bring their vision to life, complete with a stunning vintage-style wedding cake!

And for this Cake Queen? I enjoyed every moment of the journey from our first consultation to hearing how much they loved their cake. 👑

From Cake Dreams to Vintage Details

Meeting Nat & Elliot for their Cake Consultation was an absolute delight! We had so much fun discussing cake flavours, serving sizes, design ideas and, of course, vintage-style piping.

Nat & Elliot had thoughtfully supplied three photographs of cakes they loved. Rather than simply copying a design, we discussed the details that appealed to them and explored how we could bring those elements together to create their own unique version.

The finishing touch? "just married" piped in black on top. A gorgeous little detail that completed the look and gave their cake its own personality.

This is one of my favourite parts of a Cake Consultation. It's where inspiration becomes a plan, ideas are explored, and we work together to create something that feels just right for the couple.

A Wedding Cake That Looked Beautiful AND Tasted Delicious

Nat & Elliot chose a gluten-free Red Velvet Cake, layered and covered with my White Chocolate Italienne Meringue Buttercream (WCIMBC).

The result was a statement wedding cake with all the charm of vintage cake artistry, created especially for Nat & Elliot and their celebration.

Beautiful cake should be about more than appearances. It should taste every bit as wonderful as it looks, and it should allow couples to celebrate together while their guests enjoy a delicious slice.

The Important Details of a Private Property Wedding

One of the things I particularly enjoyed about working with Nat & Elliot was discussing the practical details of their wedding cake.

When you're organising a wedding at a private residence or public hall, there are many more things to consider than when celebrating at a fully catered wedding venue. Established wedding venues are generally experienced in managing wedding cakes, from receiving deliveries to storing and serving them. However, when you're organising your own celebration, it's important to establish who will take responsibility for the cake, how it will be stored, when it will be displayed, and who will cut and serve it.

Not every caterer has experience handling and cutting a tiered wedding cake, so it's worth asking these questions well before your big day.

Fortunately, Elliot's mum had previously run a catering business, and a favourite staff member, whose job it was to cut cakes at events, would be attending the wedding. I was absolutely delighted to know that the cake would be in experienced hands!

We also discussed delivery timing and how long the cake should be on display before being cut. As a general guide, a smaller cake may be displayed for around an hour before cutting, while a larger three-tiered cake may be suitable for a longer display. The ideal timing depends on the cake's ingredients, fillings, covering, room temperature and weather conditions. Always follow your cake designer's storage and display instructions, particularly for outdoor or hot-weather weddings.

These little details might not be the most exciting part of planning your wedding, but they can make a world of difference to how your cake looks when it's time to cut and enjoy it!

A Careful Journey from Smiths Lake to Burrell Creek

With the wedding taking place on Saturday, 3 October, the cake needed to make its journey from my kitchen in Smiths Lake to Burrell Creek the day before.

Transporting a finished wedding cake is always a careful operation. This was precious cargo, and I wanted Nat & Elliot's cake to arrive looking just as beautiful as when it left my kitchen. After a slow and careful drive, the cake arrived in pristine condition.

The best part? When Nat & Elliot saw their wedding cake for the first time, they were absolutely blown away!

I carefully carried the cake into the mobile coolroom, double-checked that everyone understood the storage and handling instructions, and made sure the cake was safely settled before leaving them to enjoy the excitement of their wedding day. There's always a special sense of satisfaction when a cake arrives safely, looks beautiful, and is ready for its moment in the spotlight.

"Nadine is truly the cake queen!"

"We wanted a vintage cake for our wedding and Nadine absolutely nailed the brief! When Nadine unveiled the cake, it was breathtaking and my partner and I were blown away by both the size and the level of detailing. Nadine went above and beyond with my partner's dietaries and the whole process was seamless from start to finish! The cake was extremely popular with our guests and we highly recommend Nadine for anyone looking for a delicious cake for any occasion!"

Thank you, Nat & Elliot, for trusting me with such an important part of your wedding day. It was a pleasure getting to know you both, exploring your ideas and creating a cake that reflected your vision. Hearing that you and your guests loved it is exactly why I do what I do!

And a special thank you to Olivia Rose Photography for capturing the day so beautifully and sharing these wonderful images.
